Last night, the Hopkins Public Schools Native Group hosted an evening of celebration and recognition, honoring community, culture, and this year’s graduating senior.
The highlight of the evening was the Eagle Feather and Blanket Ceremony, led by leaders Katy Solko and Debb Andreen, honoring individuals for their impact and dedication. Dr. Rhoda Mhiripiri-Reed and Annie Huberty, former American Indian Education Coordinator, were both recognized with blankets for their lasting contributions to the program.
The celebration centered on this year’s graduating senior, Gabrielle Battles, an Ojibwe student whose journey was honored by family, staff, and community. Next year, Gabrielle will attend the University of Minnesota Twin Cities, where she plans to explore interests in art, psychology, and criminology.
